Rants from a Jamaican British Woman

Tuesday, February 03, 2004

God help us if Blair continues to take decisions about ours and other people's lives based on no information and misinformation. Will Blair assure us that he will resign if this enquiry turn out not be just another whitewash? Greg Dyke of the BBC resigned because the BBC made a mistake, or someone in the BBC made a mistake. We the people Mr Blair want an apology from you for taking us into a wholly unjustifiable war. Will you apologise and do us all a favour and resign?

Has Mr Blunkett taken leave of his senses? Stupid question I know... Perhaps he could start interceding at the time a couple decide to conceive. He could arrest them and ensure they don't produce a thieving little brat or god help us a terrorist..

I have been away for a long time. I have to say I am feeling thorougly deflated. There seem to be little point in objecting to anything anymore. We are living in George Orwell's 1984, only it is 10 times more awful than he imagined. I am sure I am not alone in thinking that perhaps we are moving towards some form of police state.
We have a completely autocratic government, headed by a Prime Minister who has shown time and again that he does not need a mandate from no one, not ministers, not the voter to take very far reaching decisions. Going to war and tuition fees, the continuing privitisation of endless public services etc.

I live in Brent, London. I was reflecting on how I and all my fellow Brentites were bombarded with leaflets last year as the different politcal parties fought for our votes for the then upcoming by-election. We are apparently sensible enough to make a decision to vote for a particular party, depending on the view we take about the information they bombard us with during by-elections and elections, but we are apparently far too ignorant to make our views known when it comes to questions such as do we want to go to war? Do we want all our public resources put in the hands of greedy private industries etc.?

This government's behaviour over this their second term has beggared belief. The Hutton Report convinces me and many millions of former labour voters that this government is completely cynical and the men in grey suits are completely self interested and acting purely in the interest of certain small interest groups. Hutton is a WHITE WASH. Blair's confidence that he would be exonerated by the report was always self-evident. On every question on which he was challenged about the government's role in the so-desribed 'sexing' up of the WMD dossier, he responded very confidently indeed "wait for the Hutton report". The report's conclusion was never going to be a surprise to him or for that matter to millions of us Britons. Blair and his autocratic governemnt was always going to win the day. Don't even get me on the tuition fees fiasco. Nick Brown and his fellow MP's who gave in to Blair's goading about bringing the governement down by voting against something they intrinsically apprently disagreed with, should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Talk about 'S.O.S.' . I can't help thinking that the only people Nick Brown and the likes were thinking about when they changed their minds so very suddently was 'Nick Brown etc etc'.

Now we are hearing rumours that George Bush & possibly Blair will be demanding investigations on why their intelligence information about WMD and the potential for immediate attack on the West was so wrong. You know what! The men in Black are just not good enough fall guys for me. The people who have to answer why we went to war is Blair and Bush. Why oh why could they not have waited for the weapons inspectors to do their job. Suddenly Blair is telling the country to wait for the new inspectors to finish their search. Isnt that like shutting the door after the bull has bolted. Blow them up first and search later. Bomb first ask questions later.

The fact is the overwhelming majory of people in this country and certainly across Europe believe Briton and America went to war on a very dodgy basis. The two government started something and the pig-headed men who head both governements allowed the escalation to war, because each are power hungry. Each were and are too proud to admit to having made perhaps one of the biggest and most lethal mistake in history. We the people cannot all be wrong... And what of the new Iraq? What of this new peace? Today another 56 people murdered in the lovely peaceful Iraq. If this is all Saddam's doing, he certainly has very long arms indeed. Bin Laden? I have long suspected that what is happening in the Middle East is integrally linked to what the West is up to in the Middle East. The Western world has much blood on its hands.
At every turn, one smells their interference, their oppressive stance, their riddiculous talk of being civilized, and their absolute determination to lord itover the rest of the world.

I suspect that America is probably the only country in the world who has the capacity to mobilze and use nuclear and other WMD's within a 45 minute time frame. What is it, a key and a telephone call? America is a country on war footing at all times, with weapons that are expensively and incredibly highly maintained. Briton apparently can't afford proper kit for their soilders in Iraq, so I doubt that we could deploy anything in 45 minutes. We can't get our darn transport system up and running after 5 minutes of snow or following a day of heavy rainfall for christsakes.

When the Americans captured Saddam Hussein, he looked as though he could barely afford a razor for a shave. If Iraq had any weapons of any description, given that Saddam is described in every context as evil personifed, why the hell did he not order his army to use those weapons when his country was attacked. The British for a start with their lack of equipment must have presented a fanstatic target for biological weapons, yet all Saddam's soldiers came at them with was a few dilapadated outdated Russian armoury. I suspect that, that was all they had.

Now am I the only person believing that we will probably find some weapons of mass destraction, I mean weapons of mass destruction. Blair and Bush have power, maybe as we speak the weapons are being carefully deposited to be found. Yes I am completely cynically, and I am sure I amongst millions.
So some friends sometimes tell that they do believe Blair genuinely believed Iraq had WMD. That I say is exactly what Blair needs us to belief, that he truly believes the self-righteous drivel he kept asserting.
And I return briefly to the death of Dr Kelly and the incredible attack on the BBC. Dr Kelly went to the BBC, did he not? Why? Why did this honourable and upstanding gentleman who worked to the highest standard on behalf of his country go to the media? Why? I wonder? It seems to me that it is an easy to virtually accusing one reporter who perhaps went the wrong way about making a name for himself and effectively the our fantastic BBC of being the prime mover in Dr Kelly's death. That is just easy, and let's draw a line under it says the Government and the acting BBC director. I say lets not draw a line under it, let truth be out. I suspect the knowledge that the good doctor had represents far more of a key to why he died. That is a question that no one in government seem prepared to ask. Why did Dr Kelly go to the Media? Why?
